The village of Kirby, located in the northeastern corner of Jackson Township, was laid out in 1854. It was initially surveyed by Dr. J.H. Williams for M.H. Kirby, whom the village was named after. The area was prosperous & surrounded by agriculture, so it was looked upon as a valuable place to start a village. The first store in Kirby was owned by Philip & Fredrick Hinement. Around the same time, the Church of God was organized by Moses Coates, a missionary. This was located at the home of James Warren & thus, many of the first members of the Church were also members of the Warren family.

The main town square of Kirby whose mayor is Tim Stansbery, features houses, businesses & a church. ONe of the most popular businesses is the Blue Room, a restaurant that serves pizza, chicken & sandwiches. Their food is well-known for quality & the atmosphere is a warm one, with great service & a family-friendly sensibility. There is also Frey Carpet & Flooring , which is a family-owned business that features a large number of flooring options while customers can feel safe in the knowledge that they will receive great, individualized service. Also in town is a branch of the DeLong Company, which purchased a grain elevator in 1984. It currently processes corn and soybeans for area farmers.

The Village of Kirby is located near US 30 & SR 53, making traveling easy. The village puts on a number of community events, one of the most popular and beloved being the St. Mary’s Festival. This festival is affiliated with St. Mary’s Catholic Church that resides in Kirby. The Church is frequented by many members of the community, & even some from out of town who come to experience the fun. The St. Mary’s festival is a two-day event. The first event is an adult night out, featuring events for the adults in the community. The next day features fun family activities, including the area’s largest cornhole tournament. This event is a way for those in the community to get together, have fun, & make memories in a way only those in a small town can.
